National Laws and Key Policies on Gender Equality in Physical Education, Physical Activity, and Sport

Australia

The Australian government is developing a National Sports Plan aimed at promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in sports, encouraging women and girls’ participation in talent development programs, and boosting female representation in coaching, officiating, and sports administration.

The government is creating a Safety in Sport Division within Sport Integrity Australia to safeguard sporting participants from discrimination, abuse, and mistreatment.

State-Based Policies: many Australian states have their own gender equality strategies, such as: Victoria’s Active Women and Girls Strategy (promoting female participation in sports and physical activity), or NSW Office of Sport’s Women in Sport Strategy (which provides funding and initiatives to increase female participation and leadership in sport).

International Policy Frameworks – Australia

The GO Policy Mapping initiative looks at a set of international policy frameworks that apply across all countries. This table zooms in on Australia, showing whether it has joined each framework, if legal obligations are attached, and which organisation is framework holder.

You can sort the columns to view the information in different ways. For the full list of frameworks visit Frameworks site.
