National Laws and Key Policies on Gender Equality in Physical Education, Physical Activity, and Sport

Zambia

Zambia`s national sports policy 2021 recognises the significant need for action towards gender equality in sports. Broadly, the Gender Equity and Equality Act No. 22 of 2015, provides a strong legal framework against discrimination and promotes equal participation.

The establishment of the FAZ Women’s Super Division (2021) marked a significant milestone in women’s football, enhancing visibility and competitiveness.

While these initiatives support gender equity in sports, sustained efforts are essential for a safe, inclusive environment, emphasizing the need for strong safeguards and accountability. Zambia recognises the need for further action to protect girls and women from gender based violence in public and education settings as reported in their Bejing +30 progress report in 2025.
